Terry (Yukyu) Chan
I moved to the US from China for my undergraduate studies at 2013 and has spent 6 years finishing my undergrad and master degrees in Mechanical Engineering with the focus on Robotics. After graduation, I’ve been working for Schlumberger Doll Research as a Robotics Scientist.
I have a passion toward the idea of using robotics to help people. There are certainly many ways, but all of them needs a good Human-Robot-Interface. And what’s better than interacting through physical contact? That’s why I had been conducting research with Prof. Rebecca Khurshid at Boston University trying to discover the effects on model classification for robot manipulation tasks using various sensor modalities and published a paper on July 2019 to World Haptics 2019.
In order to further implement my ideas, I would have to learn more skills. That’s why I’ve accepted a Robotics Scientist role at Schlumberger Doll Research developing a robotics automation system with path planning, imaging processing, surface scanning and surface modelling algorithms. And now after a year at SDR, I have been equipped with software and algorithm development skills along with knowledge at automation system architecture design.
In the future, I would love to continue my pursue at developing robotics systems that can assist human in different fields.
